Cardboard Challenge at Beam Center

Calling all Brooklyn families!  Especially those with children who love to play in boxes, build structures, dream of fantastical places, and work together with friends on monumental projects!

On October 5, Beam Center in Cobble Hill Brooklyn (close to the F train at Bergen) will host Find & Seek, and we will facilitate a community collaboration with children of all ages to build a magical Cardboard City of Dreams! We will begin with our Find & Seek class of 4-5 year olds which will run from 10am until 11:30, then the event will be open to the public until 4:30pm, at which time we'll light the structure and let the children play within it, while we create an imaginative video! Then we will break down at 5:30, to send our city off to Recycling, so that it can be reborn as new paper products!

The inspiration for this event is the wonderful and inspiring video Caine's Arcade, a 9-year-old's original cardboard project-turned-viral-video which provided the impetus for a wonderful new foundation to take shape. The Imagination Foundation is sponsoring this event and providing lots of resources for the Challenge to be a worldwide, connected event!

We will also use cardboard boxes for another very worthy purpose: to take donations for two entities: Save the Children Syria and Find & Seek in Red Hook (offering free arts/story workshops to children in Red Hook, one year after Sandy).
