Find & Seek is working in collaboration with Brooklyn New School and the Early Childhood department of Brooklyn College to start an infant center that will serve Red Hook, Brooklyn. Our group seeks to apply best early childhood practice, seen in Jonkoping, Sweden and Reggio Emilia, Italy, to our context in South Brooklyn. This is the latest in a long line of events reflecting our ongoing conversations with educators in Sweden. Proceeds from sliding scale ticket sales will directly support the BNS infant center's development.

From Italy to Sweden to New York City:
Pedagogical documentation as a tool for transformation in early childhood education
This lecture is a sequel to the May 5, 2014 lecture on Universal Preschool in Sweden, held at Brooklyn College and titled “Inspiration for Progressive Early Childhood Education.” Three hundred people from all sectors of early childhood education in New York City attended this lecture. In response to the enthusiasm generated by this event and in preparation for The Wonder of Learning – The Hundred Languages of Children exhibition (http://www.newyorkcitywol.org), we have invited Karin Alnervik, renowned Nordic preschool pedagogista (master preschool teacher who facilitates teacher reflection), , to Brooklyn.
Dr. Alnervik speaks to preschool teachers about pedagogical documentation internationally. Pedagogical documentation is a process of reflection through and with documentation (video, photographs, etc.) of preschool life. Dr. Alnervik will speak about this process as a tool for transformation in early education, and will then open the floor for questions and discussion.
All are welcome: teachers, parents, teacher educators, early childhood and childhood administrators, etc.
Childcare will be provided for those who R.S.V.P. to Beth Ferholt at bferholt@gmail.com.
Pizza and baked goods will be provided by the Brooklyn New School Infant Center Planning Group.
We will ask for an OPTIONAL donation (pay what you wish), with all proceeds going towards the establishment of a free preschool for families in Red Hook, Brooklyn that will be inspired by, and which will continue to collaborate with, the Reggio Emilia inspired preschools of Sweden.
